How to stay sane in quarantine

Hey guys, long time no talk. I know that I definitely haven’t been keeping up with this blog like I should. I could sit here and make excuses for myself like I was too busy but the reality was, I lacked any motivation. Let’s have a recap, shall we? March 8th, Houston entered Stay at Home Stay Safe Order aka quarantine and I saw my sanity slowly slipping away. For those of you that are new here, I’m a germophobe and a global pandemic…well, that’s probably gotta be in the top 3 of my worst nightmares.

Fast forward to today, Houston cases are on the rise and I haven’t left the house in 3 weeks. Maybe you’re in the same boat as me, maybe your state is slowly easing restrictions. Either way, here are some tips I’ve gathered about how you can stay sane in quarantine and find ways to enjoy at-home life.

Find a project

For me staying busy is key. The less time I have to ruminate about the past or fret about the future, the better. Now’s the time to dust off those old Pinterest boards and start those DIY projects you always told yourself you would. The hubby and I are planning on remodeling our backyard and I’ve mastered the art of scratch-made Rice Krispy treats and chocolate chip cookies.

Buy an inflatable pool

Seriously, this is the best tip I can offer unless of course, you have the luxury of a real pool at your disposal. This inflatable pool has been my saving grace. I spend every weekend getting some much needed Vitamin D and Serotonin from laying in the pool and reading a book du jour.

Drive-in Movie Theaters

Now that everyone is quarantining, drive-in movie theaters are becoming popular again. Enjoy a night out where you can BYOB, sit in the comfort of your car, and enjoy an old classic with your partner or your pet! I did this recently and saw Princess Bride and it was so much fun getting out of the house all while still feeling safe.

Exercise At-home

Exercise gives you endorphins and though Hot Girl Summer may feel canceled, now is not the time to become a couch potato! Find an at-home workout that sets your soul ablaze. For me, I’ve been using the Obé app and I absolutely love it. It has tons of variety so I never get bored. Lately, I’ve really been enjoying barre, yoga, and dance classes. It really doesn’t matter how you choose to get active but aim to move your body every day!

Get help if you need it

I’ll be the first to admit that quarantine has been hard for me. Every day I wake up I have to choose between miserable depression, crippling anxiety, and some days both. For the first time in years, I’ve decided to go back on medication to help stabilize my mood. And guess what?! There’s nothing wrong with that. I’ve also been seeing my therapist twice a month. Many health insurance providers are currently covering Telehealth psychology services so definitely check in with a therapist if you need one!

Stay safe in quarantine, stay sane!
