Hi everyone! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet. Although it’s been a while since I’ve posted, I’m happy to be back! I’m sure I’m not surprising anyone when I say, the holidays are in full swing! If you’re like me and you’ve been procrastinating your holiday shopping, then here’s a little guide to take the edge off. Thank God for Amazon Prime, am I right fellow procrastinating pals?!
Ladies, we all know that guys are the hardest to shop for. Every year I ask my husband what he wants and every year he, “Doesn’t care.” One thing I do know about him for sure is his immense love, (borderline addiction) for playing video games. If your SO/Brother/Father/male cousin/son is anything like my husband, then this gamer gift guide was made for you. Full disclosure: I vetted this entire guide with my husband and it got the Jake stamp of approval. Without further ado, here are my picks for the best things to get the gamer dude in your life.
These days the options for gaming systems are practically endless! In my house we have pretty much all of them. In fact, every time a new one comes out, it’s either on pre-order or the next big gift for the year. From Xbox to PS4 to Nintendo Switch and all in between, there are so many amazing options, so I cant touch on them all!
The Nintendo Switch is a great portable option that is well-loved by both my husband and my brother. They love that they can take it with them anywhere and play and it has been a total game-changer (pardon my pun) for when we are traveling! There are so many things you can do with the Switch and it is reasonably priced for a gaming system that can also double as a streaming video player.
The perfect headset is quintessential if your gamer guy A. Likes to play with strangers online B. Likes to chew out his friends while they’re playing together C. Wants to ignore his wife, jk (maybe) or D. All of the above. A good headset can help make the gaming experience much more exciting all the while, cancelling out the outside world.
Unfortunately, good headsets aren’t cheap. My husband swears by the Turtle Beach Surround Sound Gaming headset. The one I linked is specifically for Xbox One but you can find gaming sets for pretty much any gaming system.
And thus we come to one of the most important categories, the games. I mean what good is a system and a headset if you don’t have any games to play?! This is a really subjective piece. You have to know a little something about your guy. Does he like first person shooters? Racing? Is he a fan of post-apocalyptic adventure games? Is he a sports fan? There are so many options to choose from!
New games usually cost around $50-60. However, If you don’t know where to start here are some of Jake’s top picks. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 (First person shooter) Forza (Racing Game) Fall Out 76 ( Post-apocalyptic adventure game) Red Dead Redemption 2 (Wild West adventure game) NBA 2K19 (Sports game).**
**All of these game links are for the Xbox One. Choose accordingly to the gaming system your gamer dude plays on.
Gamer Box from Man Crates
I first spoke about Man Crates in my Valentines Gift Guide. Each gift comes in a large crate which then has to be pried open with a tiny crow bar. The bonus is your amusement watching them open or struggle to open the box.
The reason I’m including them in this guide is because they have a specific Man Crate for Nintendo Switch users called the Switch Swag Crate. This crate includes all the accessories you would need for a Nintendo Switch gaming system.
GameStop Gift Card
Finally, if all else fails and you’re at a total loss, then a GameStop gift card is a great option. He gets what he likes while you get to gift it to him without the guesswork. Everybody wins! Getting him a gift card to GameStop can be a great way for him to decide what he needs and wants.
Have a Happy Holibae!
Who would I be if I didn’t use the chance to close my guide with a holiday pun? If you use this guide, you’re guaranteed to have yourself a Happy Holibae! Happy Holidays friends!
