Get fit, look cute
When I was a lot younger, a relative gave me this advice, “If you look good, you’ll feel good, and if you feel good, your performance will reflect that.” I’m not sure if there’s any statistical evidence backing this up but I can provide you with some of the anecdotal variety. When I was nervous about a test, I’d always put on my favorite outfit, the equivalent of a 13 year old’s power suit. What I found out is that if I felt confident about the way I looked, my test performance was a reflection of that confidence.
I know you’re probably like, where is this post going? I promise I’m getting to a point, so bear with me. If you’ve been following me, then you already know that I didn’t make a “New Year’s Resolution.” If you want to read why, you can find that here. However, for many of you, your goals are to get fit or healthy. This is where my story bridges back to the present. I’m here to tell you that if you find workout clothes that make you feel good, you will be motivated to workout and push yourself in the gym. In the remainder of this post, I’ll be sharing with you my favorite athletic wear brand. I will also be sharing how to take gym wear from the studio to the streets.
My Favorite Athletic Wear Brand
It is worth noting, this post is not sponsored by the brand and all of these opinion and reviews are my own. I’m going to share a little backstory on how I stumbled upon this brand. I first came across Define Your Inspiration (DYI) at a hot yoga class. A girl was wearing these adorable maroon leggings with these mesh cutouts starting at the calf and going down to the ankle. I had to know where she’d found them. She told me where they were from and…bonus! They were also having a warehouse sale. (Houston ladies, I have some exciting news for you if you make it to the end of this post!) Thus began my obsession with Define Your Inspiration athletic wear.
I have a couple of pairs of their leggings and they stay in my weekly workout wear rotation. I love these leggings because they are high waisted and they stay put but they aren’t constricting. My workout of choice is hot yoga. If you’ve ever been to a hot yoga class, then you know, that at 104 degrees and 60% humidity, the goal is to be as uncomfortably comfortable as possible. These leggings are moisture wicking and pretty much feel like butter. Not only are they probably the most comfortable athletic wear I’ve ever worn, they are also so pretty! This makes taking your athetic wear from the studio to the streets almost effortless. Ladies! Gym clothes do not have to be baggy and frumpy. Getting fit and looking cute are not mutually exclusive. Here are a couple of ways I style my athletic wear.
Take your athletic wear from the studio to the streets
Marble Print Leggings
These leggings are my absolute favorite because of the stunning attention to detail! I am pretty much obsessed with the marble print and the golden zippers at the ankle are so fun! These leggings are guaranteed to get you tons of compliments from friends, family and even strangers. They’re not just cute either! They’re perfect for any activity from yoga, to weightlifting, to just drinking wine on your couch. Honestly, I’ve worn them on tons of road trips because of how comfortable and versatile they are. After hundreds of wears and lots of washes after hot yoga, they have not pilled or faded at all.
Since I’m always in hot yoga, I prefer to rock these leggings in class with their mesh black crop top for maximum comfort. When I leave class, I just throw a slouchy black sweater on and I’m ready to go to brunch with the girls or run errands. I also usually wear black flats or black over the knee boots to finish this outfit, however tennis shoes would look just fine as well.
The sweater pictured is from Loft and they are currently having 60% off sale items and 50% off regular items. Can’t beat that! Sweater runs true to size and I’m wearing a small. I’m wearing a medium in the mesh DYI top. I have a slightly more pear-shaped body so I usually size up on leggings. I am wearing a medium in these leggings and they fit like a dream! If you are in between sizes, I would size up. Shoes are Sam Edelman flats and to this day, I have not found a more comfortable and soft pair of black flats. You can get them for half the price from Nordstrom Rack which is a megadeal!
White Stripe Out Legging
I’ve always loved leggings that have a mesh detail. These ones are so comfortable and breathable. The mesh tiers help you to feel cool during your workout. They are also stylish enough to get away with wearing out. When I got married in Vegas in the fall, I actually wore these out on the strip with a blue velvet cami and some brown booties. If you’re not so keen on white, they come in tons of other colors.
During class, I usually just wear these leggings with a long tank top. I got the one above from an Etsy called Lettered Goods and it supports Hurricane Harvey Relief. I’ll link her shop here if you want to purchase. The tank top is super soft and very lightweight, perfect for the gym and beyond. After class, I throw on this super comfy chenille sweater. I am all about the soft textures this season and chenille definitely tops my list!
The eggplant chenille sweater is from Target and I am wearing a small. The fit is boxy and short so it’s the perfect length for us petite ladies! I am wearing a medium in the white out leggings and a large in the Texas Strong tank top for a super relaxed fit.

So by now you have probably clicked a couple of my links and decided these leggings are out of your price range. Girl, I feel ya. I’m still struggling from Christmas too! For my local Houston ladies, I have a treat for you! Define Your Inspiration is having one of its infamous warehouse sales! You could score these regularly priced $90-$100 for half the price! Again, I am not sponsored or anything although, if Define Your Inspiration is reading this, holla at yo girl! I just love this athletic wear and know you will too!
Warehouse sale will run January 30th-February 3rd from 11am-5pm daily. Be sure to follow them on Instagram, @shopdyi for additional details. And for those of you not local, don’t fret! Online, current sales items under, “Last ones left” will also have even greater discounts .
